Bespoke Joinery and Q-Mark Fire Doors for Ysgol Gymraeg Croes Atti

Ysgol Gymraeg Croes Atti is a newly developed Welsh‑medium primary school created by Flintshire County Council to support the growing demand for Welsh‑language education in the region. The project provided Derwen Joinery, based in Wrexham, with the opportunity to contribute to a flagship public sector development while demonstrating our expertise in purpose‑made joinery for modern educational environments.
Appointed by the main contractor, Derwen Joinery delivered a full internal joinery package designed and manufactured to meet stringent standards for fire safety, acoustic performance and safeguarding – essential considerations in any contemporary teaching facility. Safety and reliability formed the foundation of this scheme, with our team manufacturing and supplying more than 100 high‑quality door sets to suit a range of performance requirements.
These included standard internal doors, Q‑Mark certified FD30 and FD60 fire‑rated door sets. The AluMax Safe‑Hinge system was selected for its proven durability and enhanced safety features, offering additional finger protection for young pupils while maintaining a smart and modern appearance across the school.
Working closely with the project design team, Derwen Joinery engineered a full suite of bespoke glazed timber screens tailored to the layout and functional needs of the building. These incorporated glazed sidelights and fanlights, integrated magnetic‑control blinds, acoustic‑rated screens and a purpose‑designed reception desk screen featuring secure sliding and locking mechanisms. Each unit was created to support visibility, safeguarding and acoustic control while contributing to a bright, open and welcoming interior environment.
To complement the overall design scheme, we also manufactured custom timber mouldings, carefully matched to the architectural profiles specified by the client. All components were fully primed using Teknos Internal Primer to achieve a smooth and consistent base finish ready for final decoration on site.
To maintain full quality control and ensure reliable delivery on a fast‑paced commercial programme, all products were transported directly to site using Derwen Joinery’s own logistics team. This allowed us to manage handling, protection and scheduling with precision throughout the project.
Derwen Joinery is proud to have supported the creation of a safe, functional and visually cohesive learning environment at Ysgol Gymraeg Croes Atti. This project highlights our capability within the education sector – combining certified fire‑door manufacturing, technical accuracy and high‑quality craftsmanship to meet the rigorous demands of a modern school building.
