Bespoke Joinery and Q-Mark Fire Doors for Ysgol Gymraeg Croes Atti

Ysgol Gymraeg Croes Atti is a brand-new educational facility developed by Flintshire County Council to provide high-quality Welsh language education in the region. This modern development offered an excellent opportunity for Derwen Joinery, a Wrexham-based specialist joinery manufacturer, to contribute to the promotion of our native language and showcase our expertise in bespoke timber joinery for public sector projects.

Derwen Joinery was appointed by the main contractor to deliver a comprehensive package of purpose-made joinery solutions for the new school. Our scope of works included:

  • Q-Mark Certified Fire Doors
  • AluMax Safe-Hinge Door sets
  • Fire & acoustic rated glazed screens
  • Glazed Screens with Integral Blinds
  • Lockable sliding glazed screens
  • Bespoke timber mouldings

This project required close attention to fire safety, acoustic performance, and child safety standards, ensuring full compliance with educational and commercial building regulations.

Safety and performance were at the heart of this educational project. The AluMax Safehinge system was chosen for its proven quality and durability.

Derwen Joinery supplied just over 100 doorsets, manufactured to a variety of specifications; from non-fire-rated, fire rated, acoustic and safehinge doorsets.

The supplied fire-rated doors were Q-Mark certified through BMTrada, demonstrating our commitment to the highest industry standards in fire-rated door manufacturing.

Working in collaboration for the design and manufacture of a range of glazed timber screens, including:

  • Door frames with glazed sidelights and fanlights

  • Screens fitted with integral blinds featuring a built-in magnetic control system

  • Fire-rated and acoustic glazed screens

For this project, Steamed Beech was chosen for its durability, aesthetic appeal, and fire-resistant properties. A bespoke reception desk screen was also created, incorporating sliding and locking mechanisms to suit the client’s requirements.

In addition, we supplied custom-moulded timber profiles, manufactured to match the building’s architectural detailing and interior design requirements.

All products were primed with Teknos Internal Primer and delivered to site fully finished, with logistics managed in-house by our team to ensure timely delivery and quality control.

Derwen Joinery is proud to have played a key role in delivering a safe, functional, and visually appealing learning environment for the Flint Welsh Medium High School. Our contribution demonstrates our capability within the education sector, blending technical precision with craftsmanship to meet the highest safety and design standards.
