Bespoke Joinery for Gilfach Ddu, Llanberis
We were approached by T.G. Williams Builders Ltd to undertake a package of specialist joinery work at the historic Gilfach Ddu site in Llanberis, located near to the renowned Llanberis Slate Museum. The project required a combination of robust external joinery, fire-rated internal door sets, and bespoke louvred screening, each manufactured to suit the character and functional requirements of the site.
We manufactured three bespoke external door sets for the site, each designed to withstand the demanding weather conditions typical of the Snowdonia area. The doors were crafted from Douglas Fir and constructed using traditional mortice and tenon joinery, ensuring long-term durability and a finish that remains faithful to the building’s heritage. The frames were detailed with a clean square moulding, while the door leaves were traditional framed ledge and brace with 20mm T&G double boarded with insulated panels to provide both strength, warmth and aesthetic appeal.
We also manufactured three external angled louvred screens designed to provide natural ventilation while maintaining a consistent visual appearance with the building’s exterior. Each screen was constructed from sustainable Welsh Larch, selected for its natural resistance to weathering and suitability for exposed environments. The louvres were carefully angled and precision-cut to deliver effective airflow while still offering a refined and cohesive architectural finish. These bespoke screens were built to provide long-lasting performance with minimal maintenance.
As part of the project, we supplied fire-rated internal door sets designed to meet the safety requirements for high-traffic visitor areas. Each door was manufactured to the exact fire rating specification and delivered ready for installation on site.
The completed joinery package provided Gilfach Ddu with a blend of traditional craftsmanship, high-performance materials, and carefully considered detailing. Each element was manufactured in-house by our skilled team, ensuring quality, consistency, and long-term durability across the full scope of the project.
