Bespoke Joinery Products for Farmhouse

Derwen Joinery Ltd was privileged to work with a private client over a two‑year period on the enhancement of a traditional farmhouse and its associated outbuildings in rural Cheshire. The project involved an extensive package of purpose‑made joinery, each item designed to complement the character of the property while providing the durability required for an active countryside setting.
A wide variety of bespoke elements were produced, ranging from flush casement Tritus windows to substantial 3.6‑metre‑tall Sapele barn doors. Every component was crafted to harmonise with the rural architectural aesthetic while meeting the client’s practical needs. One of the newly constructed outbuildings was fitted with framed, ledged and braced farmhouse‑style doors, manufactured to provide strength and authenticity. To ensure visual continuity across the site, each door frame featured traditional Ovolo mouldings – a detail also used on the window joinery to create a consistent and considered appearance throughout.

A standout feature of this project was the manufacture of two impressive double barn doors, each rising to 3.6 metres in height and constructed from durable Sapele hardwood. Designed to accommodate the client’s horse boxes, these doors were engineered for both visual impact and everyday reliability. Their design incorporated arched top rails shaped precisely to follow the curvature of the existing brick archway, glazed upper panels to introduce daylight into the interior, and pins fixed directly into the brickwork for secure hanging. A bespoke curved top hinge was fabricated in‑house to ensure a perfect fit and smooth operation. The resulting doors deliver a striking blend of rural charm, structural integrity and refined craftsmanship.
In addition to the principal barn doors, Derwen Joinery produced a selection of traditional boarded farm doors to suit the functional outbuildings across the site. All external doors were factory‑finished using Teknos Traffic Black, providing a durable, weather‑resistant coating well suited to exposed countryside conditions.

To complete the joinery package, Derwen Joinery supplied flush casement Tritus windows manufactured with matching Ovolo mouldings to maintain architectural consistency. Finished in crisp Teknos White, the windows combined classic rural styling with high thermal performance. Each unit was fitted with premium Coastal ironmongery, chosen for its long‑term durability and refined appearance – ensuring the windows perform reliably while enhancing the overall aesthetic of the property.
This bespoke countryside project showcases Derwen Joinery’s ability to deliver traditional joinery with precision, authenticity and high‑quality finishes, supporting both the functional and architectural needs of complex rural schemes.
