Restoration of Landmark Building

Derwen Joinery was proud to contribute to the transformation of the former Lloyd’s Bank building in Buckley – a distinguished local landmark originally constructed in 1893. The once‑disused property has now been sensitively converted into six high‑quality apartments, requiring careful collaboration between heritage conservation, traditional joinery craftsmanship and the performance demands of modern residential living.
Working closely with the project team, Derwen Joinery delivered a comprehensive package of bespoke internal and external joinery. Every element was designed to complement the building’s original Victorian architecture while introducing durable, low‑maintenance materials suited to contemporary use.

One of the most significant aspects of the project was the restoration of the building’s original Teak entrance doors. Our team carried out a detailed refurbishment, preserving as much of the existing historic fabric as possible while reinstating its distinctive period features with accuracy and care.
As part of the external works, Derwen Joinery manufactured a suite of purpose‑made Accoya and Tricoya joinery items, including raised and fielded panel entrance door sets, a fully glazed shopfront and bespoke fascia and decorative barge boards. These materials were selected for their exceptional dimensional stability and superior durability – qualities particularly valuable for heritage properties where long‑term performance and minimal maintenance are essential. Each component was factory‑finished with a high‑performance Teknos external coating to provide a crisp, consistent and long‑lasting finish.

Internally, Derwen Joinery supplied a full range of custom‑made joinery designed to meet both aesthetic and regulatory requirements for modern apartments. This included new staircases, American White Oak pig‑ear style handrails, fire‑rated internal door sets throughout the apartments and a full suite of MDF skirting, architraves, window boards and bespoke mouldings. Together, these elements created a clean, coherent interior environment that respects the building’s heritage while supporting the usability of a multi‑residential development.
This project highlights Derwen Joinery’s ability to combine conservation‑led craftsmanship with reliable, high‑performance materials. The completed apartments now benefit from robust, beautifully finished joinery that enhances the building’s historic character while meeting today’s safety, functionality and design standards.
