Restoration of Landmark Building

Derwen Joinery were proud to support the renovation of the former Lloyd’s Bank in Buckley, a landmark building dating back to 1893 and of notable historic significance within the town. The project involved transforming the disused property into six high-quality apartments, requiring a balance between conservation, craftsmanship and modern building standards. Derwen’s involvement spanned both internal and external joinery, delivering bespoke solutions that honoured the building’s heritage while meeting the functional demands of residential use.

Externally, Derwen carried out a full restoration of the building’s original Teak entrance doors, carefully preserving their character and historic value. In addition, new apartment entrance door sets and shop fronts were manufactured from Accoya, designed in a raised and fielded panel style to reflect the original aesthetic.

Further contributions included the manufacture of fascia and barge board with all external joinery being manufactured from Accoya and finished with an external high-performance Teknos coating. Every element was crafted to match existing profiles, ensuring architectural continuity with the original structure.

Internally, Derwen Joinery manufactured replacement staircases along with wall mounted American White Oak pig ear-style handrails. Internal fire rated door sets were supplied throughout the apartments and complemented with MDF  architraves, skirting boards, window boards and various mouldings completing the clean and consistent interior finish.
