Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

What is PAS24?

PAS:24 is a British standard that sets out the requirements for enhanced security performance of doors and windows. Products certified to PAS:24 have undergone rigorous testing to ensure they meet stringent security standards, providing peace of mind to homeowners regarding the safety and security of their properties.

What is Approved Document Q?

In England, Approved document Q – Security of Dwellings took effect in October 2015, supporting the existing Schedule 1 to building regulations.

These regulations require that all new-build properties are constructed to resist unauthorised access to any dwelling, as well as to any part of a building that provides access to a flat.

To achieve compliance, windows and doors must be manufactured and tested to meet the PAS 24 standard or an equivalent recognised security specification.

How are PAS24 Windows and doors Tested?

PAS 24 windows (and doors) are tested to ensure they can withstand common methods of forced entry used by burglars. The testing is carried out under controlled conditions by accredited test laboratories

Tests include;

  • Mechanical Loading
  • Manual attack
  • Window and hardware manipulation
  • Weather Resistance
